How is the food supply in Singapore kept safe for human consumption? Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) conducts microbiological tests on food. Only food that has been certified safe and wholesome for human consumption is allowed to be sold in Singapore.

Contrary to popular belief, food that has been certified safe is not free from bacteria. Bacteria are allowed in our food, however they must not exceed the maximum permissble levels stipulated in the Food Regulations.
