It’s a common refrain that processed soups contain a substantial amount of salt. So how much salt is in a can of mushroom soup?

Majority of canned mushroom soup sold in Singapore do not declare the salt/sodium content on their food labels. However, the few that do, provide an insight into the salt content of these processed soups (note that salt content may vary with product).

Health Promotion Board recommends consuming not more than 5g or 1 teaspoon of salt a day. On average, you would have consumed approximately 2.3g of salt from one can of mushroom soup. Although salt is essential for life, however excessive consumption may lead to an increase in blood pressure which is a risk factor for stroke and kidney disease.
