It is common for a layer of glaze (ice) to be applied on frozen sutchi fillets to preserve quality and prevent deterioration during storage. At the same time, it is also not uncommon for these sutchi fillets to be dipped in phosphates (STPP) to retain moisture in the fillets. However when these fillets are dipped for longer than necessary, this leads to an unjustified increase in the weight of the fillets. FoodSavvy.sg conducted a survey and found that 5 out of 7 brands of frozen sutchi fillets contain STPP. FoodSavvy.sg takes a measured and moderate approach and encourage consumers to avoid the consumption of non-beneficial additives whenever possible. After all, frozen sutchi fillets with no added phosphates are available.
